Harley‑Davidson Recalls 82,000 Softail Motorcycles Due to Safety Defect
Harley‑Davidson Issues Major Recall on Softail Models
Harley‑Davidson has announced a large-scale recall affecting over 82,000 Softail motorcycles manufactured between 2018 and 2024. The recall was triggered by a defect in the rear shock absorber’s preload adjustment mounting, which may crack and lead to serious tire contact — increasing the risk of a crash.
What’s the Issue?
According to the report, the mounting tab of the rear shock preload adjuster can fracture during use. If it breaks, the adjuster may interfere with the rear tire, potentially causing tire damage or sudden air loss — both highly dangerous at high speeds.
Which Models Are Affected?
- FLDE (2018–2019)
- FLHC (2018–2021)
- FLHCS (2018–2024)
- FLHCS ANV (2018 & 2023)
- FXLRS (2020–2024)
- FXLRST (2022–2024)
- FXRST (2022)
Harley’s Response
Although a previous fix was issued in recall 23V591, continued reports pushed Harley‑Davidson to release an updated bracket design. Owners will receive this new bracket free of charge starting mid-June 2025.
